WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES
MISSION STATEMENT
Chicks in Crisis provide classes and workshops that create a challenging learning environment and encourage high expectations for success. Our goal is to enhance, educate and motivate the lives of all young women and men to become financially independent and able to give back to their communities.
OVERVIEW
Career Achievement Workshops will train and teach young women and men in the foster care system, welfare system, parole system, prison system and educational system. The goal is to teach them the skill sets they will need to become financially independent.
This educational course is focused on how to build a resume, effectively manage a job search and professionally interview for prospective jobs. The workshop consists of how to get started, principles of an effective job search plus preparing and building a resume and list of references. Preparing a cover letter and follow up strategies, email correspondence and how to build a successful job search using the internet is also taught. We break out into groups to work on mock interviews which helps build confidence in the interview process.
Each class will include a local business person to speak about their business and what they look for when hiring employees. That local business owner will then be a part of the mock interview process.
In June 2009 we launched our first Financial Literacy workshop sponsored by River City Bank. The goal is to teach the fundamentals of finances from checking accounts to saving accounts, interest rates, fraud, etc.
Our cooking class teaches the basics of cooking and nutrition. We show participants how to prepare and freeze food, menu plan, and create shopping lists in order to feed a family of four on a budget.
We will continue to grow our class and workshop offerings in 2010. We plan on adding birthing classes, cooking and life coach classes, etc.
