MISSION STATEMENT Chicks in Crisis provide classes and workshops that create a challenging learning environment and encourage high expectations for success. Our goal is to enhance, educate and motivate the lives of all young women and men to become responsible parents, financially independent and able to give back to their communities. Amber's Closet Although Amber Nicole only lived for 7 short days, she is remembered daily at CiC. It was with great honor we named the core program after this angel – Amber’s Closet.
Amber’s Closet is FREE to clients who are referred by other local agencies or walk-ins. Amber’s Closet provides diapers, wipes, formula, baby clothing & maternity clothing along with business and casual attire to teen moms, women and their children. You may only come to Amber’s Clothes Closet once a month as we have other clients that are also in need of our assistance and we want to make sure everyone gets what they need. Amber’s Closet hours are Tuesday through Thursday 10 am-4 pm and Friday’s 10 am-2 pm. Parenting & Cooking Classes Are held weekly every Thursday 10 am- 1 pm. Classes are free! Responsible Parenting Classes cover a wide variety of topics designed to improve parenting styles. The goal is to educate the different parenting styles, developmental stages of childhood, adolescence, stages discipline, self-esteem and effective communication. The classes are made to provide teen parents with the proper tools to help raise their children in a positive environment and minimize CPS or Foster Care involvement.
THE PRENATAL CLASSES educate our moms to be the importance of making all of their prenatal appointments with their Obstetrician, taking their prenatal vitamins to eating healthy during their pregnancy. They also learn what changes to expect week by week during pregnancy from changes in the body to food cravings and what to expect after delivery during their six weeks postpartum. The Nutrition & Cooking Classes educates teen mothers and pregnant teens on the importance of eating healthier for both the mother and their child. Our student nurses teach the basics of proper nutrition at infancy as well as adults.
Our cooking class shows the different ways to make and prepare meals by using their WIC vouchers, grocery store ads, coupons, farmers markets and weekly preparation when on a budget - We make cooking fun. The cooking classes are held every Thursday at 12 pm-1:30 pm. To sign up for our cooking classes please call Gloria (916) 441-1243. Now that it's spring time, we'll be focusing on using fresh and local produce to make a variety of healthy meals on a budget!
